DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH

Introduction

Do you like pet?
Do you have any pet in your house?
Can you describe it to your friends?

Descriptive writing appeals to sense, so it tells how something looks, feels, smells, tastes, and/or sounds. A good description is word picture; the reader can imagine the object, place, or person in his or her mind. A description usually follows a pattern of organization that we call spatial order. Spatial order is the arrangement of things in space.

Purpose of descriptive paragraph :
To describe a particular place/ thing/ person

Structure of the Text :

^ Identification (mention the special participant)
^ Description (mention the part, quality, and characteristics of subject being described)

Language Features:
^ The use of adjectives and compound adjectives.
e.g. :
-Luffy is small and full colour .
-Luffy has good behavior.

Example of Descriptive paragraph :

My Lovely Cat
 I have a lovely cat called Luffy. He is very cute and funny.Luffy is small and full colour. His hair has three colours; black, white and yellow. The black fur is on his body, white is on his tail and legs, and the yellow one is around his stomach, face and neck.Every day I give him some food and drink. He likes rice and fish. I also give him some milk. It makes him stay healthy.Luffy has good behavior. He never steals food. My family and I love him very much.

* 1st Paragraph  : Identification
* 2nd, 3rd, 4th Paragraph : Description

Task

After understanding the definition, generic structure, and the language features, then the teacher get the studens to make work with a classmate, a small group. make a simple descriptive paragraph based on the picture that i given on the top. then discuss with your partner or group some possible details about your describing paragraph.

Process

To get better understanding  about structure and the language feature of descriptive paragraph, students have to do this:
1. Make a group consisting of 3 persons.
2. Find 2 descriptive paragraph.
3. Analyze the structure.
4.Analyze the language features.

Evaluation

After the students have submited the task, the teacher will check your work one by one.
some aspects that the teacher want to assess are:

1. the generic structure (whether the generic structure is in the right order or not)
2. the use of the adjectives (when decribing the object)
3. the use of the simple present tense
So, I want you to make sure that your works are completely correct before you submite them.
