"Descubre Puerto Rico" by Verónica Schmidt-Gómez

This project is designed for groups of 4 students to conduct an internet-based research and discovery of Puerto Rico.  The final product will be a presentation on the material and individual brochures on the assigned tasks.  This creates an overview of Puerto Rico.  The method of presentation can be oral and used as a PowerPoint presentation.

Should computer access be limited, you may research the links and print out the material.  Create titled folders (Geographer, Historian/Archaelogist, Anthropologist, Sociologist) filled with the appropriate articles in order for the students to successfully research the information.

Create daily goals to ensure students remain on track to complete the project.

Background:

Give an introduction to the Taino Indians and their connection to the islands in the Caribbean.  Provide students with an overview of Arawak words that are similar to Spanish words currently used in the country.
