Introduction
Third grade,
Time is running out and I still have to plan our 3rd grade field trip! I'm going to need your help to get the job done. I need you to decide on where we should go on our fieldtrip and make a schedule of everything we will be doing! I'm counting on you!
Sincerely,
Miss DeLorenzo

Task
Your job is to work with your small group to plan our 3rd grade field trip.
You can pick from 2 field trip locations: the North Carolina Zoo or the Museum of Life and Science.
Then, you must plan out every detail of the trip and make a schedule. Of course you'll need to use elapsed time!

Process
Step #1
First, you'll need to become an expert in elapsed time. I wouldn't want any gaps or overlaps in our schedule! That could be a disaster!
Before you do anything else, you'll need to go check out these videos to make sure you understand elasped time:

For more practice, you can play Elapsed Time Mathman: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/time/mathman_time_elapsed.htm

Step #2
Now you need to decide on a location. Will we be going to the North Carolina Zoo or the Museum of Life and Science?
Check out the website of the location you chose. Look to see which exhibits you want to check out while we are there. Make a list of the ones you really want to see!

Museum of Life and Science: http://lifeandscience.org/plan-a-visit/
Step #3
You'll need to figure out how long it will take to travel to there. Click on the link below.
Our school address is 3810 Wake Forest Highway, Durham, NC 27703.
The address of the North Carolina Zoo is 4401 Zoo Pkwy, Asheboro, NC 27205.
The address of the Museum of Life and Science is 433 W Murray Ave, Durham, NC 27704
Make sure to enter our school adress and the address of the location you chose. Then click on "Get Directions". This will tell you how many hours or minutes it will take you to travel there.

Step #4
Using your schedule worksheet, start to create a schedule. We can't leave the school before 8 AM and we have to be back at school by 6 PM.
Don't forget to add in the travel time to get there and to get back to the school!
Remember, you will also need to add in time for lunch and bathroom breaks.
There cannot be any gaps or overlaps in your schedule.
Group 1: You may only use an "o'clock" time 5 times (example: 12:00)
Group 2: You may only use an "o'clock" time 4 times
Group 3: You may only use an "o'clock" time 3 times and a ":30" time 3 times.
Group 4: You may only use an "o'clock" time 2 times and a ":30" time 3 times.
Check out the rubric to make sure you have included everything!
