Exploring our Planets of our Solar System ~ Science Project for 4th and 5th Grade (By Danny Salas)

Introduction

You are about to head out on a 5 day journey! You will explore many fun websites to help you learn about each planet in our solar system! Some say that aliens have already done this! What does each planet look like? What order are the planets in? What is each planet made up of? Can we visit these planets? You will navigate through the internet to find out the answers to all of these exciting questions!

Task

Today you’re an astronaut! Your spaceship is ready to take-off into our vast solar system. Are you ready to blast off?! You will need to pay close attention and take notes so that when you return for your journey, you can answer all of the questions asked!

When you return from your journey, you will be able to:

  • Describe each planet
  • Name the planets in order from the sun

Process

Days 1-3: Click http://kidsastronomy.com/earth.htm to read about each planet in our solar system and answer the following questions.

         

Day 1

  • Name each planet.
  • What does each planet look like?

 

Day 2

  • How many planets are there?
  • What is the temperature of each planet?

 

Day 3

  • How many moons, if any, does each planet have?

         

          Day 4: Click http://youtube.com/watch?v=RJ2bQWH6GCM&noredirect=1 to watch this fun video to see the order of the planets from the sun. Answer the following question.       

  • In what order are the planets from the sun?

          Day 5         : Click http://youtube.com/watch?v=LvwrDgId2HY to listen to this planet song to help you remember all of the planets that you have explored.

  • Which planet is your favorite? Why?

You will have 5 total days to complete this project.
