Introduction
Germs come in all shapes and sizes. While the simple term germs works well to raise awareness of hygene practices and preventative measures, it is actually quite interesting to explore the different types of germs that exist!
Bacteria
Funghi
Virus
Protozoa
Helminths
Rickettsia
You probably already know that germs can be transmitted in the form of a virus, such as the influenza virus which we commonly call the Flu. They can also be transmitted in the form of bacteria, such as ecoli which is commonly spread by poor toilet hygene (not washing your hands!) But have you ever heard of Helminths or Protozoa? Did you know that Funghi is more than Mushrooms and Toadstools!?!
This web quest aims to explore the world of germs and allow you to investigage this fascinating world of invisible nasties! By the end you should have a thorough understanding of the above terms, and select communical diseases associated with them.
Task

The above video provides some brief detail of four of the types of germs listed on the last page. This is a great foundation for you to build on. You have a double period (90 minutes) to undertake this webquest and research as much information as you can on each of the germs, using the following guidelines:
A description of the grem type
The environment it flourishes in
At least two diseases or health issues caused by the germ
Preventative measures that can be taken against this type of germ
Does immunisation exist for this type of germ.
Once you are finished you will present your findings to the class in the form of a powerpoint presentation.
Process
Explore the following websites. They should contain all the information you require to complete your presenation. However they may not contain everything specifically. Some information you may have to consider yourself. For example, Rickettsia is transmitted by fleas, ticks and bugs. While it is not specifically stated on the provided website how to prevent or reduce your risk of exposure, there is sufficient information to form an opinion of best practices. The websites provided also have a lot of information which is not relevant to your assignment. This is NOT a copy paste assignment, use only the information that is relevant, and in your own words.

Evaluation
All presentations will be assessed for the quality of your written work with focus on paraphrasing and only selecting information relevant to the task. Further to this your depth of thought on the issues, clarity, demonstration of effort and creativity and editing will all be considered.
Conclusion
Students will be assessed against the Australian curriculum standards:
