Greek God and Goddess Webquest

Introduction

It is not only important to know about the Greek gods, goddesses and heroes in order to understand The Odyssey, but to understand the many allusions that are made to them in our literature. To facilitate this, you will do a webquest to find information about ONE of the Greek Gods and Goddesses that you will select randomly. You will teach your information to the rest of the class.

  • Students will select a Greek God or Goddess to research randomly.
  • Students will be provided a data collection sheet (Google Docs) with 10 questions which must be answered.
  • 1. The Greek & Roman NAMES of the god. (This will be your Title Page/Slide 1).
  • 2. SYMBOLS associated with the god.
  • 3. Considered the god of what DOMAIN (What does your god rule or control).
  • 4. RELATIVES (parents, siblings, spouse, children, etc.)  Prepare or include a Family Tree.
  • 5. Does this god have a WEAPON or TOOL? If so, what is it?
  • 6. SPECIAL POWERS of the god.
  • 7. Special PERSONALITY TRAITS of the god?
  • 8. MYTH with the god as the main character – with a brief summary of myth.
  • 9. What other IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS or INTERESTING FACTS have you discovered about your god?
  • 10. How is your god’s name used in SOCIETY TODAY?  List several examples?

Conclusion

The Olympians, who were led by the chief God, Zeus, consisted of six Gods and six Goddesses. The Gods and Goddesses lived in Mount Olympus, and were on the top rank of the Olympian Divinities. Each of the Gods and Goddesses had their own unique characteristics, powers, and famous myths. Now you know a little bit more about each of the Gods and Goddesses.

Congratulations!
