Introduction

Exploring the World of Greek Mythology and the 12 Olympians

Task

You will explore the world of Greek Mythology by completing a Research Project. There are 2 parts to this project:

1) Research 3 Greek gods/goddesses and complete a Research Planning Guide

Regular English Classes

2) Group up with a partner and ccreate an online newsletter using https://www.smore.com/app/dashboard

Advanced English Classes

2) Create a Play Script with your small group and act out the play in a Play Performance

I will assign you the 3 Greek gods/goddesses that you will research. Be sure to use the supporting documents and planning guides to assist you in your quest.

Process

Steps of Research Project

Part 1

1. Write down the names of your Greek gods/goddesses on your rubric

2. Use the Research Planning Guide to begin researching your Greek gods/goddesses.

3. Complete your Research Planning Guide

 

Part 2-Regular English Classes

1. Get with a partner that researched the same 3 Greek gods/goddesses

2. Click on the following link to setup your online newsletter (1 per group): Online Newsletter Requirements and Guidelines

3. Rehearse your presentation with your partner making sure everyone in the group has a speaking role

4. Present online newsletter to class

Part 2-Advanced English Classes

1. Select the members of your group (3-5 members). Decide as a group which letter of Greek gods/goddesses you want to focus your play on (A, B, C or D)

2. Write down the members of your group on your rubric

3. Write a rough draft of your play script. Click on the following link for the guidelines and requirements of your play script: Play Script Guidelines and Requirements

4. Type your Final Draft of your play script and submit it through Google Classroom to the Greek Mythology Project Assignment (1 submission per group)

5. Rehearse your play with your group members with your props

6. Present Play to class in Play Performances

Research Planning Guide Due Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2016

  • All 3 Greek gods/goddesses have a separate research planning sheet
  • All categories for each god/goddess have been completed
  • Information researched is accurate

 

Online Newsletter   /50 points

Online Newsletter Due Date: Thursday, May 12, 2016

  • Newsletter has a creative title
  • Newsletter has at least 5 pictures with captions explaining each picture
  • Newsletter has an 8 sentence summary about your 3 Greek gods/goddesses
  • Newsletter has one video clip(1-5 minutes) about your3 Greek gods/goddesses OR Greek Mythology in general

Online Newsletter Presentation            /30 points

Presentation Date: Friday, May13 or Monday May 16, 2016

  • Each group member contributes to the presentation
  • Group members maintain eye contact
  • Presentation is rehearsed

Advanced English Classes

Research Planning Guide           /20 points

Research Planning Guide Due Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2016

  • All 3 Greek gods/goddesses have a seperate research planning sheet
  • All categories for each god/goddess have been completed
  • Information researched is accurate

 

  • Play Script   /50 points

Play Script Due Date: Thursday, May 12, 2016

  • Play is written in correct format
  • Play script has a creative title
  • Play follows a Plot (Exposition-Resolution)
  • Play includes all 3 Greek gods/ goddesses
  • Final Draft of play script is typed and submited in Google Classroom

Play Performance            /30 points

Play Performance Date: Friday, May13 or Monday May 16, 2016

  • Each group member contributes to the performance
  • Actors are serious and in character
  • Actors know majority of their lines without looking at scripts
  • Props are used to enhance the performance
