The history of language teaching methods

Introduction

We have discussed first language acquisition. We have also explored secondlanguage learning and how it is different form first language learning.

Now we need to explore the historical development of second and foreign language teaching and learning.

Task

In order to figure out about this process you will first do some research on the web on the following topics:

-What´s a method? What´s an approach?

-Theories of learning and theories of language learning

- History of language teaching methods

-Teacher's and student´s roles

-Procedures

Once you have collected the information, you will choose a web 2.0 tool to present your information to the class (Linoit, Mural.ly, Prezi)

You will be working in groups, which will be arranged beforehand.

You will have two weeks to complete the final task.

Final task: oral presentation with the support a digital production.

Evaluation

In the final task your need to integrate the concepts you did the research on, trying to find suitable transitions between topics.

The course bibliography will alsohelp shed light on your work (your teacher will recommend some specific chapters)

Your work(presentations and digital production) will be evaluated according to these criteria:

1- clarity of concepts

2- ability to integrate and relate topics

3-design creativity

4- appropriate language and reference system

Digital work:

In all cases try to synthesize the information (text should not be longer than three lines long).

You may inlcude links or pictures to replace words.

Presentations:(maximum 20 minutes, not less than 10)

Make your presentation as interactive as possible:make your classmates answer questions, exchange opions, share experiences.

Include more open questions than questions that ask for one correct response.

Conclusion
