Jack the Ripper: Web Quest

Introduction

Hey there,

today you will be learning more about Jack the Ripper.

You will receive some guidelines regarding the questions you have to solve.

You are one of the detectives, who have to solve these horrible crimes. First of all, you will need some basic information about Jack the Ripper, because this will allow you to build a case file about him. Thus, it is very important that you guard your work and keep up the pace, since else all the evidence will be lost. 

Remember, you do not know the identity of Jack the Ripper, so be careful who you trust and watch your back!

Jack the Ripper strikes again!

Browse the internet for information. You have to answer the following questions in order to establish a case file about Jack the Ripper. Answer these questions in the word document your teacher will provide you with. ( School  X > Documents > Jack the Ripper) 

When your teacher tells you time is almost up, you should go to the evaluation tab!! 

 

 1.     Enumerate the victims of Jack the Ripper (5)

 2.     How were the victims murdered? Describe the wound.

 3.     Where were these victims murdered? In order words enumerate the crime scenes. (5)

 4.    Most of the victims shared the same profession. Which one was that?

 5.     Think about the circumstances in London in that time. Find some information regarding the wealth of the people, the division of the town and the common wellbeing of  the population.

    • Were the inhabitants of London wealthy or not? Explain 
    • Comment upon the heating and lighting equipment in those days. 
    • Did all of the inhabitants had some place to sleep or not? Explain! (the word ‘doss money’ may help you > explain this word as well!!)
      • Doss money =......
      • Sleeping places for everybody? = ....

a)     How did Jack the Ripper get his name? 

b)     What is another name for the series of murders committed? (think about the first crime scene) 

c)      Did Jack the Ripper wrote this letter himself or not? Who did write it? 

d)     The publication of this letter caused a rather annoying effect for the police. What was the result of the publication? (mentioned in the video!!) 

 7.     Enumerate the main suspects. (3)

 8.     What was the name of the inspector that was brought into the investigation? Also mention the reason why he was brought into the investigation. 

 9.    Do you think that these crimes and crime scenes are connected or just random? Did you figure out who the murderer is?

In other words: explain your theory regarding the murders, the crime scenes and the murderer in 10 sentences. (Think about the questions from earlier > is there a connection?)

When you are finished with these questions, go to the evaluation tab.

→ You will have to hand in the final 'case file' in one week from now.

→ Make sure you check your spelling (automatic spelling checker in Word!)

→ Make sure you fill out your name on the case file.

→ Pay attention to grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and syntax.
