"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" WebQuest- What is a Legend?

Introduction

We have recently finished reading "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. This story is one of the most famous in American history. There have been multiple film and television adaptions of the short story, making it a legend. What is a legend? Why do some stories stay with us through the years? Your task will be to discover famous legends and introduce your classmates to their importance. 

Task

Your task is to define what a "legend" is and to introduce your classmates to three other legends. You will create a PowerPoint with a partner giving background information on each legend.

Process

You and your partner will a create a PowerPoint introducing your classmates to THREE new legends as well as answering essential questions: 

  • What is a legend?
  • Why is “Sleepy Hollow” considered a legend?
  • What is the difference between a legend and a myth?

For each of your THREE legends, you must:

  • Give a brief summary of the legend
  • State the country from which the legend originated
  • State the time period in which the legend originated
  • Add a picture of the legend

    Make sure your PowerPoint is colorful, original, and features detail.

You will be graded on three areas:

  • Factual information- The information you present is factual and reliable.
  • Creativity- You have put thought and time into your PowerPoint.
  • Group participation- Both members of the group put forth effort and work together.
