Making Money Out of Charity, A Question of Ethics

Introduction

Designed for 'Industry and Enterprise' students; what is the difference between charities and corporations?

Task

To investigate the case studies presented before drawing a conclusion about the purpose behind charities, ethical movements and corporations.

Step 1 will be to investigate a few definitions, building understanding of our key terms

Step 2 will involve research to develop answers to our key questions

Step 3 will be to synthesise our new understanding into a script for a t.v. exposé

Step 4 will be to create and upload our clips

So click 'Process' and let's get started...

Process

Step 1 Investigate Definitions

Follow the links below to answer the questions

  1. What is a ‘Charity’?
  2. What is a ‘Corporation’?

Step 2 Research

Follow the links below to answer these questions

  • What is the main aim of a charity? (tip…look at their mission statements and think what it may be for charities generally)
  • What is the aim of a corporation?
  • What is the aim of an ethical movement?
  • How did each example start and who do they help:
  1. Thank you
  2. Soi Dog
  3. World Vision
  • How much profit or loss did Thank you make last year by comparison to World Vision?
  • If you were going to support a charity, what would you like to know about it first?

Step 3 Create a script for a t.v. exposé

First watch the link below. Now your task is to write a script that you can film with a friend (you will then help them film theirs). The script should go for about 3mins and be a sensationalised media report on the financial side of charities. Be creative here, this of such shows as 60 Minutes, A Current Affair and Today Tonight. It should be ‘hard hitting’ but please feel free to add some humour to it!

Step 4 Create and Upload Clips to Compass

It is now time to grab a partner and put your script into action. This section is to be done at home but you may be allowed some time in class so bring what you will need to upload your clip for editing.
Once you have filmed and edited it, upload your final copy to the Learning Task on Compass.

Awesome, quest finished :)

Evaluation

A rubric will be added soon :)
