Introduction
Hello Mad Materials Scientists!
We have a very important job for you. As miniature mad scientists in this unit you have learned a little about matter and the scientific method of investigating materials.
We have a very important job for you. As miniature mad scientists in this unit you have learned a little about matter and the scientific method of investigating materials.
Today you will investgate and report back on your experiment of testing different materials on whether they leak, soad or repel.
Task
Leak, Soak or Repel
varable table
- we will change: Materials
- we will measure/observe: how many drops of water can different materials take before they leak.
- we will keep the same: (control method)
The ruber band
The amount of materal
The cup remains sill
The height of the water is droped from
the size of the drops
Task:
We want to find out which different material will leak, soak or repel the water droplets, so we know which materials are used best to clean up thing/soak up. what repel the water so it protects it from getting wet and which material water will leak through.
students will be put into groups with one student taking the roles of manager, speaker and director.
a table will be recored with in sciecne books which will include:
- type of material/name
- what do you prodict will happen? explain why
- tally: under of drops
- write about and draw your observation of what is happening
- may take phots for evidence with Ipads
Manager will collect the material and bring back to their desk
Process
Materials needed:
- x3 rubber bands
- x1 food dye dropper
- one of each material provided
- x 3 plastic cups
- science journals
Evaluation
campairing the results
- which material soaked up the most water?
- which material didnt soak up any water?
- which material soaked up a little water?
- whitch material repeld the water?
- which material obsorber?
- were you suprised by the results?
