Mini Inquiry Investigation

Introduction

I will research and create a presentation about a topic that is affecting the sustainability
of Earth.

Task

For my Mini Inquiry Investigation, I will research and create a presentation about
a topic that is related to renewable energy sources on Earth. Some topics to
choose from could
include:

ENERGY SOURCES:

- Sunglight

- Wind

- Water

- Geothermal heat

- Rain

- Tides

I understand that I will be expected to do some research in my homework and I will have class time to work on this investigation and I will be ready to present Monday 7th September 2015

Process

STEP 1:

Remember, you are investigating a renewable energy source: where can it be produced, what conventional energy source is it replacing, why and how does it work and how as a community we can use this energy source, why will This help the environment?Create a concept map about as many things you can think of about your chosen area. – what do you Already know? It is important to have somewhere to start from? You may already have questions in mind!STEP 2. Read over your assessment criteria to ensure you know exactly what is required for you to achieve success in this task.Select at least 3 main ideas from your concept map to investigate for your mini inquiry.Using your concept map about what you already know.....Think of some open ended questions that you can ask to research and further your understanding of the topic. Come up with a minimum of 3 questions. You can of course think of more! Where is your investigation going? What things do you need to
answer? Think about the purpose of the inquiry investigation!
STEP 3:RESEARCH: find at least 1 book, 1 website and 1 other resource about your chosen topic. Make a list of your resources. You will need to keep it somewhere safe and remember to include it at the end of your
presentation.
Research and find the answers to your questions using the resources you have found.Using a SQ3R template (or other summarising tool) you are to research and collect information for your
investigation.  Make sure you summarise the information into your own words.
REFER to your assessment criteria to ensure you know exactly what is required for you to achieve success in this task.

Conclusion

STEP 4:

Now that you have collected all of your information it is time to plan your presentation. You may need to map out your poster or create a story board for your mini movie, it is important to roughly sketch and plan your work to ensure your presentation is of a high standard.

Be sure to refer back to your assessment rubric to see if you have addressed all of the criteria. If you need to go back and find some more information be sure to do that BEFORE you start your presentation !

STEP 5:

Start your presentation (poster, information booklet, PowerPoint Presentation, imovie, website, prezi presentation, or even a model).

You will be required to share your findings in a 3 minute oral presentation. When designing your presentation think carefully about the success criteria on your assessment rubric.
