Introduction

ONLINE SAFETY!

These days, internet and social media have become an inseparable part of our lives. We are making use of the internet in some way or other. Among Teenagers are the most contributors to the use of social media and Internet. This issue certainly has become a topic of concern as well as fear for their parents. So, it’s important to discuss the online safety with teenager students to increase their awareness of its dangers.

In this lesson I’m introducing the topic of online safety for students in a motivated and excited way, allowing them to discuss their thoughts and ideas about the usage of internet and share their own experience and opinions.

Task

The task for today is:

          Students work out the topic of the day using key words.

Students explore the online safety tips.

                                    Students classify the online safety tips from the most useful to the least useful.

                  

                       Students suggest tips for online safety use.                          

Process

Step 1 (Warming):

  • Dictate the following words or write them on the board for students to copy.

ü  online

ü  share

ü  information

ü  personal

ü  privacy

ü  password

  • Explain that these words are all related to today’s lesson theme.
  • Students discuss their ideas in their groups and make suggestions about the theme of the lesson.
  • Discuss the topic with students, and ask them about their own experience online.

 

 

Step 2:

  • Show students the “8 tips to stay safe online” poster.

 

 

 

 

  • Students work in small groups to classify the eight tips from the most useful to the least useful.
  • Conduct feedback as a whole class.
  • Elicit ideas for other tips for online safety.
  • Encourage all groups to give at least one suggestion.

 

Step 3:

  • Students work in pairs to do the activity focusing on vocabulary they learnt from the poster:

 

  • Students check their answers by referring back to the poster.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 4:

- As a member of the class through this activity, the Student has learned much about how to use internet safetly and wisly.  

- The Student may has distinguished between the most important and useful tips of online saftey and the less useful tips and why.

- Students by the end of this lesson must have developed the ability to give suggestions and build useful tips for teenegers for online safety. Morover, students now are familier with the online safety vocubularies and are able to use it in other authentic situations.
