PAYING TAXES IS EVERYONE´S PROBLEM?

Introduction
  • In this webquest you are going to learn and reflect on how the tax fraud affects all citizens of your country.
  • You will observe the high share of shadow economy in our country,Spain.
  • You can appreciate the amount of money left to enter the state and therefore stop investing in health, education or income redistribution.
  • We discussed here is related to macro-issues and state intervention in the economy.
Task
  • Your job will be to go answering questions that are raised in the "process" ,specifying the source of information coming.
  • Finally, along with the answers to these questions ,you must provide a reflection on learning.

The work of research and reflection is individual.

Process
  1. Start a new Word document and save as "Paying taxes is everyone´s problem"
  2. Find the following concepts and relate them: Shadow or underground economy, tax evasion, tax fraud, tax haven, GDP,lawful and illegal activities, welfare state.
  3. The underground economy comprises only lawful but undeclared activities.Put three examples.However,ilicit themselves are excluded from the economy.Put three other examples.
  4. Find what proportion of shadow economy exist in Spain in relation to GPD and what are the main causes (study 2014)
  5. Now, find the absolute amount,in euro,for the stimation of the underground economy and compare it to what yhe Spanish state spends on education or health.
  6. Make a table that reflects the data from three countries and Spain on stimates of shadow economy on GPD ,in %, the nunber of inhabitants per inspector of taxes and governement expenditure each country to combat tax fraud.
  7. Find out what countries or territories are considered tax havens and which are located in Europe.Draws up a list of 10 territories.
  8. There are notorious cases of Spanish people or enterprises taxed abroad to pay less tax.Look for some examples.
  9. Propose some measures to combat underground economy, tax evasion and political corruption.
  10. Finally, make a personal reflection on what you have learned on tax fraud in our country relating it to what you already know about the welfare state ,education and health.
  11. Revise your essays and submit them to your teacher.

CONCLUSION

Thanks to this webquest you have met various ways in which the Spanish public finances falls to collect money,revenues,and thus can not invest in our society.

The redistribution function of income for a welfare state can not be carried out by the state.Equality and justice principles are violated. 

It is everyone's awareness and fight against this phenomenon, given the high rates of shadow economy in Spain.

This awareness must occur at all levels: from the political to the most disadvantaged citizens.
