Step 1 : Skeletal SystemResearch information on the skeleton and prosthetics and bone facts, in your journal take notes and use this information to answer the following questions:
- How important are our bones?
- What problems might we have if we did not have some of our bones?
- What are some materials that might be useful for creating artificial limbs? Why?
- Who knows how many bones are in each of our bodies?
- What are some of the functions of our bones?
- Who has ever had a broken bone? When your bone fractures, what does it need to heal?
Step 2: Muscular System
Read the information on muscles and the article "Robotic Brace", in your journal take notes and use this information to answer the following questions:
- How important are our muscles?
- What problems might we have if we did not have use of our muscles?
- Why might biomedical engineers be interested in the human muscular system?
- What can biomedical engineering do for people with muscle issues?
Step 3: Designing yor LimbNow that you and your group have researched information about the skeletal and muscle systems, and prosthetic devices it is time to put that information into the design of your prosthetic device. - You are to complete the design sheet with your group- Research different ideas as to how you will make your limb (leg or arm) Be ready to create your limb and actually use it in front of your class.
