SHAPES, SHAPES, AND MORE SHAPES!

Introduction

The student will learn to develop the knowledge of the geometric shapes: triangles, circles, rectangles, heart, squares, ovals, and stars!

INTRODUCTION:

There are so many shapes that surround us! What all do you see??? Would you like to learn what each are? Please join me while we learn about the different types of geometric shapes that are all around you EVERY SINGLE DAY! ! You will learn how many sides are on each shape and what each shape looks like!

Task

TASK:

First, the students will be presented the lesson on shapes. Each student will be taught the shapes: triangles, circles, squares, hearts, ovals, and stars. After the students have been taught the shapes, the students will learn how many sides are on each shape. On the board, I will give a presentation of each shape into great detail. I will then put the class into groups and each group will have their own shapes. The groups will be given a poster board and draw their shape and tell what interesting facts they found on the internet. The sites they will use will be:www.turtlediary.com . Once each group has finished with their poster, they will present what they found out about the shape and tell the facts they learned. Once all groups have gone, there will be a short quiz on the shapes given to them.

Process

PROCESS:

Step one: Students will be taught the lesson plan I have done. I will instruct them on the shapes and how many sides are on each shape. The students will take small notes on the shapes and the information give for their small project they will be doing as a group.

Step two: Students will be divided into their groups and I will give them the shape they will be researching on. At this time, they will begin to start on the project.

Teacher Page

This is a first grade math lesson. It is for students to learn basic shapes that surround and are visual to each student daily.

The goal of this lesson is for the students to be able to pick out shapes and name them when they see them. Another goal is for the students to be able to tell shapes from other shapes and the basic number of sides on each shape.

Materials provided: Dry erase board for lesson by me. Materials to make the posterboard. Internet for the shapes games (computer).
