Stone Fox

Introduction

Little Willy knew he had to do something to help.  Grandfather was ill.  He took his college savings to pay the entrance fee for a dogsled race with his dog Searchlight.  He then found out the legendary Stone Fox had also entered the race in hopes of winning the prize.  There are questions you may still have now that we've completed the novel.  This webquest will help you dig deeper into the plot and learn some interesting facts.

Task

To develop a deeper understaning of the story Stone Fox and some of the elements the characters may have gone through, you will complete four tasks.   

   

By the end of the lesson you and your group will have:1.  Generated a vision of Wyoming and its features while making a brochure advertising the state.2.  Create a poster advertising the National Dog Sled Race.3. Write a newpaper article about the Dog Sled race and the contestants.   

Process

You will need to research the following links to help you complete the tasks.  They have been divided into catagories to guide you.  You should take notes on notebook paper or the Fact Sheet in this packet.  Be sure to look through the packet to see before writing on notebook paper.  

Wyoming 

In order to help you understand the characters of the story you may want to know more about where the story takes place.  Think about all the things you may know about Wyoming.  On the chart ist the thing you think you know.  Then make another list of things you would like to know about Wyoming.  Next, write a paragraph about the facts you learned about Wymonig.   Finally, make a brouchure about Wyoming to give to tourists that come to the state.  Here are some resources that may help:

To creat the brochure you will need to open Microsoft Publisher.  

Dogsledding 

You are interested in joining a dogsled race and need some information to get started.  You will need to know what type of dogs you will need, what type of sled and where the races will be held.  Write a complete list of items you will need and places where you will race.  Here are some resources:

Newspaper Article 

The town of Jackson, Wyoming needs an article for their paper telling about the National Dogsled Race.  Include things such as the contestants, the events, and the winner.  Remember to use the five w's when writing the newspaper article: who, what, where, when, why.   The rubric we created in class will be how your grade is determined.
