Universal Human Rights - Child Slavery

Introduction

The Declaration of Universal Human Rights declares that all people are created free and equal.  However, today over 125 million children worldwide are subjected to child slavery.  Your task today will be to investigate the causes of this horrific situation, determine the effects of child slavery, and finally, determine potential solutions.

Task

I.

The first step in this investigative journey is to determine what has caused child slavery to exist.  Since the idea of enslaving young children goes against our natural human instincts, how did this human rights violation begin?  Each member of your group should select one of the links below and discover at least five causes.

Process

After each of the websites are searched, discuss the findings within your group, and decide on the best answers to each of the questions.  Write these answers on your group assignment page, and be ready to share!

Evaluation

Each group will be evaluated on the basis of the thoroughness of the Webquest search, and the synthesis of the responses.  Groups that present will be awarded bonus points.

Conclusion

Your investigative efforts may lead to reducing the reach of this horrific human rights violation.  Thank you for your time and energy in this project.
