Whole Number and Decimal Place Value Webquest

Introduction

Who gets to advance to the State Track Meet?
Trevor ran the 100 meter dash in 10.85 seconds.
Russell ran the 100 meter dash in 10.88 seconds.
They both ran it in 10 seconds, so does it really matter?

If you went to the bank to cash a $145.50 check that you received for mowing lawns,
and the cashier handed you $14.55, would you be upset?
Why?  It’s just a little decimal out of place… it’s not that big of a deal… is it?

In this WebQuest, you will discover the importance of place value.  You will also have many opportunities to practice your whole number and place value skills!
