Introduction

1. Introduction

Have you ever wondered about the myterious dissappearance of lost civilizations? Have you ever wanted to explore and discover a new world? You are about to embark on a journey that will take you to far beyond exploration. You, along with 2 other explorers are about to cross the Atlantic Ocean on a mission to find answers, or even more questions for the mystery of the Roanoke English Colony. For this journey, you will need to create a unique seafaring name for your expedition. Each member will have a specific job to do. You are to first decide who will be the Captain; who will lead to victory, the navigator; who will control the helm, (computer), and the 1st Mate; who will help put it all together. Are you ready to uncover the mysteries of the past? Lets begin!

Task

2. Task

Together, with your crew, you will be researching a lost colony. As passengers aboard your ship, you are to become one of the 115 English settlers that arrived on the shores of the newly discovered land in 1587. You will be collecting data from various websites in order to create a google presentation (simular to Powerpoint), of your detailed ship's log to share with the class as well as give an oral presentation.

Process

3. Process

You will use Google Presentation to create an Expedition Journal Log to keep track of your notes and artifacts from various web-quest. Please make sure you complete each journal entry. For example, your first entry (slide 1) will be to fill in the appropriate information. Your second entry (slide 2) will be titled, "The Lost Colony" ," and so on.

Set-up: (There are two ways to do this)

Start by creating your ship's Expedition Journal in Google Presentation:

Log in using the same information that you use to log in to your computer.
In a new internet browser tab: open google Docs
In the top right, click on the "Apps" button (It looks like 9 boxes in a square, or tic-tac-toe)
On the list that comes up, click "Drive"
Click "shared with me" on the left side (it is a red box)
Find the shared file, "The Lost Colony WEBquest"
When it opens up, click "file", and "make a copy".
Click "Untitled Document" at the top of the page of your open document.
Rename the document exactly like this for full credit

Period #, Group expedition name, members last names,-The Lost Colony.

Click ok.

Click "Share" on the top right. (Blue Box)

In the "Invite People" box at bottom of the page, type all members of your crew to share and work together.

Click "Send"

Now, you can get started working on the webquest! Click "Done" to go back to the document and get working.

Slide 1: - Choose:

Expedition name for your group. (MUST be approved by the teacher)

Your shipmate's (Captain, Navigator, and 1st Mate)

Plumb the depths and click on The Lost Colony .Write about your findings and secure these fact into your ship's log (slide 2).
Follow the instructions to the new clues by clicking on the photo to research the latest theories.

Congratulations! You have finished your Lost Colony expedition web-quest and should have a better understanding of the theories to the mystery of the Roanoake Colony. You should be proud of your accomplishments. Let's recap, as a crew you have collaborated and discussed your findings. You have prepared a google presentation to prove your research data you have collected. You have come away with a better understand of just a small part of the beginning our U.S. history. Please make sure you have shared your journal, through google docs, with your teacher so it can be graded.
